Imperative International Conference on Standardized Botanical Extracts Hailed a Success

Canadian Phytopharmaceuticals Corp. (CPC), in association with The Chinese Association for Promotion of TCM Research, Shanghai National Engineering Laboratory for TCM and China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Medicines & Health Products, held the first “International Conference on Standardization of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Botanical Extracts” in Wuhan, China, on June 30th 2011.

Held at the newly established National Bio-Industry Base (‘Biolake’), the conference tackled the challenging quality control issues faced by the pharmaceutical industry today. Attendees discussed the complexity of the medicinal ingredients in TCM and phytomedicines, exploring the possibilities of establishing scientifically sound and internationally recognized quality standards for botanical extracts in China and the global market. Analytical solutions were presented by numerous organizations stirring positive feedback about the industry’s ability to improve quality standards of botanical extracts in the near future.

The conference drew over 200 internationally renowned experts in the areas of phytochemistry and standardization of phytomedicines and representatives from all major Chinese institutions and companies that are engaged in the research, development and manufacturing of botanical extracts and TCM medicines; notably the Chinese Pharmacopeia Committee, United States Pharmacopeia and European Pharmacopeia.
